A room full of delicious desserts — sounds like a dream come true.

And for The Macaroon Shop, it was.

On May 29, the Avon-by-the-Sea bakery took home the People’s Choice award at WJLK-FM 94.3 The Point’s third annual Dessert Wars. Its winning entries? Coconut, almond and chocolate-covered macaroons.

“We really had a great night,” said Claire Morrison, who has owned The Macaroon Shop with her husband, Chris, since 2001, in a news release. “The best part is when people taste our macaroons for the first time. Their reactions of delight, the sounds they make as they chew the macaroons ... it’s priceless. Everybody just loves them.”

Dessert Wars, which took place at River Rock Restaurant and Marina Bar in Brick, was attended by hundreds who enjoyed sweets from 20 local restaurants, bakeries, caterers and sweet shops, according to the release. The contest categories were baked, cold, and candy desserts.
